Local Designer Randy Trainor Earns Highest Honors

Brookfield - Interior Designer Randy Trainor, owner of INTERIORS by Decorating Den, received her company's highest honor recently when the company named her the 2005 Franchise Owner of the Year.

The award was presented at the company's 36th annual conference held in Los Angeles.

Trainor has owned the local INTERIORS by Decorating Den franchise in Brookfield for 16 years.  Her work takes her all over the region where she brings samples of window, wall and floor coverings, furniture and accessories to clients' homes and businesses.

According to a company press release, the award is the highest honor a designer can receive.  It is presented to the franchises owner who demonstrates exceptional dedication and service to her profession through cooperation with other franchise owners, suppliers and management.  To qualify, annual sales must be among the top 10 percent.

In addition to this most recent award, Trainor has earned the company's highest honor for sales performance, and has won in the bedroom, show house and family room categories of the Dream Room Contest.

At the award ceremony, company Chairman, Jim Bugg, Sr., recognized Trainor's many accomplishments.

"Randy has unselfishly given back tenfold to our company.  Not only does she operate a role model business, she is also an outstanding designer, who cares deeply about her clients and her fellow franchise owners," said Bugg.

Trainor pioneered her company's mentor program throughout 2004, which contributed to many of the company's new franchises having smooth and successful business starts, according to the company.

Established in 1969, INTERIORS by Decorating Den has more than 500 franchises and decorators worldwide.  Each decorator offers creative design solutions and thousands of samples of window, wall and floor coverings, furniture and accessories in a client's home or office, according to the company.  The company's design makeovers have been featured in magazines such as House Beautiful, Traditional Home, Southern Living and Good Housekeeping.  Trainor's design of a model guest room is featured in the new book, Creating Great Guest Rooms" by Carol Donayre Bugg.

Passion for Home Fashion  Decorating is a creative field, demanding an eye for color, style, and texture.  Trainor honed her design senses early in life by earning a degree in art history and architectural history.  She spent summers as an apprentice to an interior design shop where she learned her business.

Her approach to design is anything but cookie cutter.  Over the years, she has designed a variety of properties, from commercial to residential projects large and small

"I've done everything from one window to an entire home," she said.  Recently, she completed a design for a communal space for two new apartment buildings in Hampton, and created a guest room model for a town house in Rye.  She also recently designed two separate homes at Wentworth by the Sea estates, one in neutral tones that matched the design style of her homeowners, the other with lots of splendid color.

"My whole approach to decorating with my clients is to ask a lot of questions.  It's critical that the end result is what they want.  I find out how they live, what they like...and questions to get a feel for their tastes," added Trainor.

"I design around people's lifestyles," she said.

Often she gets involved at the blueprint stage of a home, considering every element such as potential locations of light fixtures and outlets, window shape and size and traffic flow of a given room or space.

While clients are involved in the process, Trainor still enjoys the moment when they drink in the impact of the newly decorated space.

"The best part is when I see the look on their faces," she said, adding that some have told her how much they will look forward to coming home every day.
